A caucus is a closed meeting of a group of persons belonging to the same political party or faction usually to select candidates or to decide on policy. They are held to find out who is going to be the next president. They are held every 4 years. They are held to for the next election. An election process is when we vote for and new person to become the new president of the United States. You can go onto the computer to vote or you can go into a voting booth. The president election is not broken. The best canidate does not mean they are the best president. To start a campaign it cost alottttt of money. You would have to be rich a confident that you can win. They have to go all over the world to try and get people to vote for them.I would vote for Hillary Clinton becasue she should know alot since her housband was a president. Also they should have a girl as a president for once.

2. What is a Caucus? Why are they held?
Is a political action organization dedicated to promoting the ideals of individual rights, limited government and free enterprise within the Republican Party in the United States. It is considered the libertarian wing of the Republican Party. It also operates a political action committee. They are held to select presidential nominees for each party running in the presidential election.

3.) When are the national conventions for each political party? Why are they held? What is determined there?
The National Conventions for each political party are held every four years in the United States by the parties that will be fielding nominees in the upcoming presidential election. The National Convention for the Republican party will be held in Chicago on June 2, and on August 25-28 for the Democratic party. They are held to select nominees for Presedent and Vice President, as well as alternatives for the nominees.

4.) What is the election process? How often do we elect or re-elect a president?
This is the usual mechanism by which modern democracy fills offices in the legislature, sometimes in the executive and judiciary, and for regional and local government. We reelect people after four years.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Election and http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_long_is_a_term_of_office_for_a_US_President

5.) Besides election techniques, how is the public exposed to candidates?
Besides election techniques, canidates can be exposed to the public through media. Also, through the News and apperaing on the television wiether it be on talk show or a debate, or a rally.

6.) Is the presidential election system broken? Has the selection of a president become like “American Idol” or “Survivor”? Does the primary system as it is currently constituted produce the “best” candidates? Is the “best” candidate necessarily the best president? The presidential election system is brokened in some states in the United States. No, the selection of the president has not become like "American Idol" or "Survivor". Yes the primary system produces the "best" candidates. The "best" candidate is not always the best president.

7.) Are we electing skilled and thoughtful leaders or the best-financed celebrity package? How much does it cost to run a campaign? How does this cost make you feel about our election system? Where do candidates obtain the money to fun for president? Do you feel candidates are pressured to push for issues desired by their contributors?
Sometimes we elect skilled and thoughtful leaders into presidency but othertimes just the best celeberity package is elected into presidency. This is because the best celeberity package is usually the one known by most people and has the most money to work with. To run a campaign it can cost well over 375,000 dollars. This cost makes me feel that the election is unfair because someone who doesnt have the funds that someone else does can simply seem like a better canidate when in reality just are useing more money. Canidates who have less money definitly have a disadvantage over those who have a lot of money. Candidates receive funds through contributions, disbursements, individuals, and cash thats on hand. (washingtonpost.com)

8.) If you could vote for president in this election, who do you feel you would vote for and why?
I would vote for Mike Huckabee because i like the key points the he has addressed so far in his presidential campaign. Also because he is in the Republican party instead of the democratic party.

1.There is a Republican and Democratic party running for the presidency. The canidates for the republicans are: Rudi Guliani- wants better healthcare,Mike Huckabee- wants better social security, Duncan Hunter- Wants less poverty, Alan Keyes- Wants well i didnt see anyhting so the man has no idea what he wants!!!, John McCain- wants better patrole on immagration, Ron Paul- Is most worried about the Iraq war, Mitt Romney- has made the most mentions about the Iraq wa, Fred Thompson- is most worried about imagration

2.A caucaus is a is a private politicalelection held for some states. Two of the most publicied are the Iowa and Newhampshire Caucuses that were just held over the cours e of the last week. This is held to see who they think will win the presidentialelections.

3. These are held every four years. they are held to see who is going to win the presidency. this determines who will win.

4. This is a process where we elect who will be president. anyone who is 18 or over is aloowed to vote. This is who the president is when they get voted for the winners from both parties are running against each other and whoever ahss the most votes wins. We reelect people after four years.

5. People are able to be exposed to this by email, phone calls, tv, news, intwernet, newspaper, and many other things.

6. No in my opinion it is not broken. Although some people yes may just vote for someone beacuse they may be rich or may seem"cooler" but i believe there are still people who will vote for the people who thwey believe will make the better president. yes the primary system is deffinatly best. Yes i believe so. If tyhe people think itas the best canidite it is probably the best president

7. I believe we are voting for the best skilled. As i said there will be some people that vote for someone just because they seem cool but a lot more people actually enjoy politics and want wats best for the country.

8.I would vote for Barock. Ya thats right lets go Barock. First off we deffinatly need some change in the office it would absoulutley be a huge feat for the african american community. I think it would be intweresting to see how the country reacts

The republican canidates for the 2008 presidential election are Rudy Guilianni, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, Alan Keeyes, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson. They are held to select presidential nominees for each party running in the presidential election. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucus.. The national conventions for each political party are held every four years in the United States by the political parties who will be fielding nominees in the upcoming presidential elections. The president is elected every four years by the people voting for who they want. This is called the election process. Election Essay

The Democratic candidates for the election are Hilary Clinton, John Edwards, Mike Gravel, Barack Obama, Bill Richardson, and Dennis Kucinich. The Republican Candidates are Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, Alan Keyes, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson. A Caucus is A party meeting at the precinct level at which citizens express their candidate preferences and pick delegates to their county conventions. It's the lowest level of party politics — the real grassroots. These meetings, held in each of the state's nearly 1,800 precincts, typically draw anywhere from a handful of people in rural areas to hundreds in suburban areas. They are here to help the citizens choose who will have been able to have a convention and to show who the favorite in the presidential election is. The national convention was made to show how much of the population is going to vote for each candidate and which party is leading in popular candidates. It is also there to help spread the political ideas of the candidates and also to show why you should vote for them. a election process is the process of the election starting with who can vote, who can be eligible to hold an office, the Nomination, Who is elected, Types of elections, Electoral systems, and Scheduling. A president holds office for four years, and may only be elected president and run twice. The public can be exposed to candidates by certain sources like the Internet, the Television, the Newspaper, Magazines, and many others. Also candidates have conventions to not only help support them, but also to show what their political ideas are. Asking if the Presidential system is broken, and is the right person being elected if a faulty question because people have their own opinion on whose would make the best president. Also how would one describe who the best president is, and what makes a president great? Is it good leadership, a good personality, lack of war, they're all right and wrong answers. I do believe that the Presidential can be corrupted, but once and awhile the right president is elected and the system works so it is a hard question to answer. The majority of candidates are there because they're millionaires or billionaires, but a small percentage is there because they're proven leaders, and know how to handle tragedy in tight situations. To run safe sound campaign it will tend to cost around seven hundred thousand dollars. Now knowing what it costs to run a winning campaign I think it may be more of monopoly game then a fair even game. Candidates tend to run programs, meetings, or conventions that the public is able to come if they pay. They may also get money from contributors, which support them. I think that most candidates discus and back certain issues because supports and contributors ask or tell them, or they do it because a good percent of the population is for it, or against it. If I could vote, I probably would not, not because I don’t care about the election but because I believe that most of the candidates are morally and politically insulting to our nation, but if I had to choose, I would pick Barack Obama, because of his views on politics and war are sort of close to my political views, and he seems like a man who could lead but still show that he cares for the people of our country.

The candidates for the prsidents that are democratic that are candidates for the presidents is Hilary Clinton, Barackobama,These are the Democratics. The Republicans areMitt Romney,Rudy giuliani. The parties that they are running are for new Hempshire, and some other staes that people are still deciding if they should be elected.

What is a caucus? A causes is Iowa's process for choosing between presidential candidates is unique among the fifty United States. Every other state has a more traditional primary election in which registered voters can cast their ballots for the candidates they prefer.

They are held becasue there is so little room that people just want room and they want to concerate about what they want to do. Most of them just want room so they can think and figure things out. They want to talk things out and figure out who they want to be.

The National conventaions for each political party are held every four years. This is to help the political party so that They can decided weather to be elected or not. This is a good way for preisedents and others to talk about there situations and what needs to be going on.

A election process is when there is a alphabetical list of candidates and there are names that proposing and soendary statments where there are statments of the main ground for proposal. We often realect everytime we want a new prisedent or when we are deiciding who to vote for when there are new president.

Besides election techniques the public exposed candidates by helping out and the canidates should take over for the president if they know better. The canidates are people who want to think and talk about the issues that are going on. They some time to make things right.

No the preisideant election is not broken But it's getting diffuicult to talk about and alot of people have different opiions about everyone. The election is comming out like a american idol to me. There are just so many things about and alot of people want it there way. We are also fighting over the war and whose goign to to treat it right. There are just so many chocies and everyone is trying to think about what every prisedent is goign to do and what they want. I think that the best canidate should take over for the prisedent.

Right now i think that we are not doing anything to elect skilled and thoughtful leaders because all we have is fights about everyone. It's just so crazy picking out these preisdents or canidates because everyone wants something for thereselves but also we want a good enought preisedent so that everything go good.

I wouldn't know who to vote for right now because there are still things to think about and it's inportant to think about things and than talk them over. So i'm deciding on wich preisedent we should vote for. I'm still thinking about the different problems and what most of the preisedents can do better.

Presidential Elections

There are two parties that run for presidency. The candidates for President for the Democratic party is Hillary Clinton wants health care, Barack Obama wants lower taxes, John Edwards wanted to strengthen domestic defense , Bill Richardson wants to make America a clean energy nation, Dennis Kucinich wants to end poverty, Mike Gravel wants to reduce America's carbon influence. For the Republicans Candidates is Mitt Romney wants to improve health care, Rudy Giuliani wants to lower taxes, John McCain wants to lower taxes , Fred Thompson to keep the right to bear arms, Ron Paulen wants homeschooling opportunities, Mike Huckabee wants give all children education, Duncan Hunter wants to secure borders, and Alan Keyes wants to stop abortion. A caucus is a closed meeting of a group of persons belonging to the same political party. These are held so registered voters can cast their ballots for the candidates they prefer to be President. The biggest one is Iowa and New Hampshire. The national conventions are held in Chicago on June 2 for the Republican party and for the Democratic party august 25. This is held to nominate the vice presidents for each party. To decide who is president you have to go through a process known as the election process. This happens every four years. they decide who is going to candidate for president and vice president by a primary or caucus. then until November the candidates for both parties campaign to the public to vote for them. Next, the voters vote in November to decide who will be president. The candidates use many way to get the public to notice them. You will see bill boards, television commercial, new paper ads, talk shows, big speeches they give and sometimes will travel around to other states. I think that the election are not becoming reality shows. Their are still people that vote based on the person who will make the best decisions when needed and not a person that he or she like based on other ideas or what they look like. People should be choosing the best skilled and thoughtful leaders but some are just choosing the one that is the biggest celebrity. a president should be a little both but more skilled and thoughtful. the presidents we choose are one that were leaders already so they know what to do during a difficult situation. these candidates are spending between 500,000 and 800,000. this is amazing how much money they spent on campaigning when the money could me use for much better purposes like helping kids or cures. They get the money from the people. Company would sponsor them and hold big conventions for the candidates. I think that sometimes feel that candidates are pressured to push for issues desired by their contributors or they could lose money and or lose votes. I would vote for Barack Obama because i agree with what he wants. He has a little sense of humor that I like. It would be interesting to see how the public would react to him if he were to win.

The candidates running for president are from both the Democratic and Republican parties. The Democratic candidates are Hilary Clinton, who wants to provide affordable and accessable healthcare, BarrackObama, who wants to lower taxes, Bill Richardson who wants to make America a clean energy nation,Mike Gravel who wants to reduce America's carbon influence, John Edwards who wanted to strengthen domestic defense, and Dennis Kucinich who wants to work to end poverty. The Republican candidates are Rudy Giuliani, who wants to lower taxes, Mike Huckabee, who wants to give all children education,Duncan Hunter, who wants to secure borders, Alan Keyes, who wants to stop abortion, John McCain, who wants to lower taxes, Ron Paul, who wants to ensure homeschooling opportunities, Mitt Romney, who wants to improve healthcare, and Fred Thompson who wants to keep the right to bear arms. (washingtonpost.com). A caucus is an informal meeting between candidates and potential voters where candidates meet voters in churches, schools, and houses. Caucuses are held to allow people to evaluate candidates and allow candidates of the same party to compete for nomination(drake.edu). The National Convention for the Republican party will be held in Chicago on June 2, and on August 25-28 for the Democratic party. These are held to nominate candidates and the candidates for President and Vice President are determined here for each party. We re-elect presidents every four years using the election process. First the candidates get nominated for President nd Vice President form each party. Then for eight to ten weeks the candidates go to the public to tell them of what they are going to do in office and to get voters to vote for them. Then in November, the voters go to the voting polls to vote for electors who in turn vote for the President and Vice President. Next the Electoral College votes on the President and Vice President. The candidate that gets the vote majority or 50% or more wins the election. If no one wins majority the House of Representatives votes to determine the President(thinkquest.org). Besides election techniques, the canduidates get known through the media on talk shows, and news, speeches, and rallies. The presidential election system is broken when no candidate receives the majority of the votes or over 50% of the votes. Then the House of Representatives votes on the President ot choose the President. The president election system is not like American Idol or Survivor because although it may seem like entertainment and a popularity contest, people pay attention to the issues presented because many vote for those unpopular but who are going to make the most change. The primary system does not always produce the best candidates just the most popular ones. The best candidate is not always the best president because they may have good oratory and campaigning skills but as president may not be the best(about.com) We are sometimes electing skilled and thoughtful leaders but sometimes just the best celeberity package. This is because the best celeberity package is usually the one known by most people so most vote for him. To run a campaign it can cost over 375,000 dollars (washingtonpost.com).This cost makes me feel that the election is unfair to those who are good candidtaes but don't have a lot of money because it holds them back from running, and gives them a disadvantage when campaigning. Candidates receive funds through contributions, disbursements, individuals, and cash thats on hand(fec.gov).If I could vote for a President I would vote for Rudy Giuliani because although he is not popular he has good experience from being the Mayor of New York, and he dealt with 9/11 well. The Presidential elections are a very complex and important process when it comes to our governement.

Elections

The democratic candidates for the 2008 election are Clinton, Hillary Obama, Barack Edwards, John Richardson, Bill and Kucinich, Dennis and the Republican canadates are Romney, Mitt Giuliani, Rudy McCain, John Thompson, Fred Paul, Ron Hunter, Duncan and Keyes, Alan. there political initiatives are:

Clinton, Hillary :how to bring the right end to the war in Iraq and to restore respect for America around the world.
How to make us energy independent and free of foreign oil.
How to end the deficits that threaten Social Security and Medicare.
And let's definitely talk about how every American can have quality affordable health care.

Obama, Barack :a war with no end, a dependence on oil that threatens our future, schools where too many children aren't learning, and families struggling paycheck to paycheck despite working as hard as they can. We know the challenges. We've heard them. We've talked about them for years.

Edwards, John : Iraq, where we should begin drawing down troops, not escalating the war Strengthening our middle class and ending the shame of poverty Guaranteeing health care for every single American Leading the fight against global warming Getting America and the world to break our addiction to oil

Richardson, Bill : "Removing all of our troops and healing Iraq are one and the same. Only when it is clear that the US will leave Iraq can the hard diplomatic work have a chance for success. A negotiated political settlement, involving the warring parties and interested neighbors is how to prevent a regional war."

Kucinich, Dennis : health care needs of our people

and the Republican canadates are
Romney, Mitt :healthcare that is affordable and portable, With taxes that are lower

Giuliani, Rudy : Washington is spending too much money, "I believe in the sanctity of human life.
McCain, John : We must also prepare, far better than we have, to respond quickly and effectively to another terrorist attack or natural calamity, Wasteful spending on things that are not the business of government indebts us to other nations; deprives you of the fruits of your labor; fuels inflation; raises interest rates; and encourages irresponsibility.

Thompson, Fred: believe in lower taxes

Paul, Ron : The worthy goals of civilization can only be achieved by freedom loving individuals.

Hunter, Duncan : Workers and businesses need something else, they need government to cut the massive regulation that keeps businesses from opening and workers from jobs.

Keyes, Alan : stop abortion pro life

national conventions are held every four years. this year the Democratic National Convention will be held in Denver, Colorado, August 25 to 28 and the Republican National Convention will be held in Minnesota from September 1-4. the following things are determined there:

1. the official party candidates are announced to the public by both parties and each party’s policy platform is announced. This is essentially what each party plans to do if elected by the people.

2.These platforms are then adopted by the parties but they are not binding on either candidates or state parties.

http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/national_conventions.htm

we re-elect a president every four years. the election process is: States Select Delegates, The People Vote, Citizens Select Electors, and lastly Electors Elect.

Teleision, internet, and radio are other ways candidates are publically exposed.

The Presidential system is curently broken. it has become like a TV show and may not produce the best candidates. The Candidates do not say what they find to be truly important all the time, they just say what will please whatever audience they are talking to . the only thing they care about is winning the votes.I would vote for Romney, Mitt because affortable health care is important and taxes are was to high and must be lowered.

we are not electing the most skilled leaders, simple the ones with the most money. it costs approxomitaly $232 million to run a campaigne which makes me feel unsecure about the people who are voted for. there could be a great leader who is not rich and they would not even have a chance. the candidates are definitaly pressured to push for issues desired by their contributers. they want to win the votes of the most people they can so they say what the people want to hear. it may not be there actual concern but if it will win them votes then they will say it.

The 2008 Presidential Election is supposed to take place on November 4, 2008. All the canidates are going to be running for either president or vice president of the United States of America. There are two ploitical parties democratics and republicans, here are the canidates.
The Democratic candidates for presedent are:

Hillary Clinton- Ending the war in iraq/ better health care plans
Barack Obama- lower taxes/ there are currently very high taxes he wants to reduce them
John Edwards- the health care of the American Citizens
Bill Richards- make america a better clean nation/helth care/ ands the Iraq war
Dennis Kucinich- enviroment/ iraq war/ health care
Mike Gravel. -enviroment/economy and budget/and immigration
The Republicancandidates for presedent are:
Mitt Romney- abbortion/economy and budget/ immigration
Rudy Giuliani- abbortion/ immigration/ economy and budget
John McCain- immigration / Iraq war
Fred Thomson- abbortion/ immigration/ economy and budget
Ron Paul-abbortion/ immigration/ economy and budget
Mike Huckabee- immigration/ economy and budget
Ducan Hunter- immigration/ iraq war
Alan Keyes- stop abortion/ pro life
National Conventions are held to show both the Republican and Democratic Parties at their best and they determine the official party candidates to the public. Speaking of the public, they are exposed to the different candidates and what they have to offer when the candidates all speak on live TV and announce that they are going to run or what they are going to do for our country.
Every four years we get to re-elect the president. This is the usual mechanism by which modern democracy fills offices in the legislature, sometimes in the executive and judicairy, and for regonal and local government. This is also typically the case in a wide range of other private and busness organizations, from clubs to volenatry accosiations and corperatrions. The election process works by having the public vote for the candidate. Then all the votes are added according to each state and then they are looked at overall. There is an announcement regarding who was elected president. We vote every four years because after a person has been the president for four years, you have to either elect someone else or re-elect the current president. If someone has been the president for eight straight years, then you have to vote for a new president because that person can only serve in office for a total of eight years.
This year the system is broken, so the bestr person may not get the job just like “American Idol” or “Survivor” the best canidate will not always be the best president.
A Caucus is a party meeting at the precinct level at which citizens express their candidate preferences and pick delegates to their county conventions. They are held to nominate presedentail canidates. Besides election technequies there are ways that the public can find out about the elctions. those ways are email, tv, media, speeches, and talk shows.

If i was old enough to vote i would vote for Rudy Giuliani. i think that one of the major reasons that i would vote for him is because of his thoughts dealing with immigration by the Mexican border. Also I belive that there needs to be done about the abbortion issue in the United States to many people have abbortions every year. Good luck to all the canidates, may the best one win!

Recently there have alot of talk about caucuses which is most generally defined as a meeting of supporters or members of a political party or movement. The caucuses are held to build support for the candidate before the party's primaries.

National conventions are always all over the news for a month or two before they are held. They are a series of presidential nominating conventions held every four years by both the Republican and Democrats to field nominees in the upcoming presidential elections.

http://www.wikipedia.org/

We try to re-elect s president every four years although the current president is sometimes re-elected for another four years, however after his second four years he cannot be re-elected.

Most people are exposed to canidates through the media, such as the news, and the internet. The current canidates have even realized this and have created myspace pages and youtube videos to have people exposed to the canidates.

I do not believe that the elections has become like a reality TV show. The election is very important and I believe that the candidates are truely trying to tell the American people what they will do in office. Unfortunatlly I think that the media, more and more, has portrayed the elections like a reality TV show. This keeps people interested and raises the news stations' ratings. I hope that before the president is elected, the media will change the election from a reality show to something that matters.

Besides the republicans (including the current presidents) I believe that the current candidates are genuine and sincere. It costs millions to run a campaign. Unfortunatlly I feel that this money is needed to show the American people what they believe in. This money comes from the goverment. However they should take out some of this money to try to eliminate the unnecciary electoral college. I do believe that alot of these canidates are being pressured to believe in what the people want but a few believe in what they believe and don't care what people are pressuring them to do. These are the kind of canidates that we need.

If I could vote in the democratic primary, I would vote for Dennis Kucinich. This is because he believes in everything that is right, even if it is not generally excepted by the general public. He is pro-climate change, anti-military, pro-universal healthcare, and anti-iraq, everything that I believe in.

It's the lowest level of party politics — the real grassroots. These meetings, held in each of the state's nearly 1,800 precincts, typically draw anywhere from a handful of people in rural areas to hundreds in suburban areas. They are here to help the citizens choose who will have been able to have a convention and to show who the favorite in the presidential election. The National Convention for the Republican party will be held in Chicago on June 2, and on August 25-28 for the Democratic party. These are held to nominate candidates and the candidates for President and Vice President are determined here for each party.According to the United States Constitution, a presidential election is to be held once every fourth year. The process of electing a President and Vice-President begins long before Election Day. Candidates from both major and minor political parties and independent candidates begin to raise money and campaign at least one year in advance of the general presidential election. In order to officially represent a political party, a candidate must be nominated by that party. The nominating process officially begins with the first state primaries and caucuses, which usually occur in the month of February of the election year. It is at these local events that voters are given their first chance to participate in electing the nation’s next President. Once at the national party conventions, the delegates from the states cast votes for the person who will represent the political party in the November general election. In order to secure a party’s nomination, a candidate must receive a majority of the votes from the delegates. It is not unusual for delegates to vote several times before one candidate secures the majority of the votes and officially becomes that party’s candidate for the election to determine the next President of the United States. The candidate for President then must choose a vice-presidential candidate. Generally, a running mate is chosen that will in some way balance the party’s ticket for the general election. This balance may be geographic and the balance is intended to make the overall general election ticket of a political party acceptable to as wide a range of voters as possible.
(http://bensguide.gpo.gov/9-12/election/primary.html).The public is exposed to candidates by we re-elect presidents every four years using the election process. If no one wins majority the House of Representatives votes to determine the President. Besides election techniques, the canduidates get known through the media on talk shows, and news, speeches, and rallies. The presidential election is not broken because people are still very honest and they vote for the person who they believe is best suited for the job. It can be a populaity contest but it is nothing like the voting like on America Idol and Survivor.
The 2008 presidential candidates for the Democratic party are Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel. The Candidates for the Republican party are Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Fred Thompson, Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter and Alan Keyes. Hillary Clinton is trying to become the first women president. She is concerned with child welfare and the issues in Iraq. John Edwards' initiatives are to fix poverty and lack of avaliable work in the U.S. He also wants to limit global warming and is pro-choice. Barack Obama wants to end the Iraq war, increase energy independence and provide universal health care. Barack Obama would be the first African-American president if he is elected. On the Republican side, Rudy Giuliani has strong ideas about abortion and has plans to move American forces out of Iraq. John McCain has strong ideas about illegal immigration and tax breaks. Mitt Romney is strongly against abortion and he supports gun control. These are the main candidates and their initiatives.

Caucuses are small meetings amoung voters in towns where the democrats or republicans will get together in places such as schools, firehouses, and town buildings and vote for who the want to become the next president.

The nominating convention for the Democratic party will be held from Monday, August 25 through Thursday, August 28 2008 in Denver Colorado. The Republican nominating convention is being held from September 1 to September 4 2008 in St. Paul Minnesota. These conventions are held to select a nominee for president as well as adopt the party's goals and rules for the party's activities. The party's goals are determined at this meeting as well as the presidential nominees.

The election process is when a person wants to run for president they must first be nominated by the state. Then the people of the country must vote on the president and vice president team of their choice. Finally, the electors will meet and vote and decide who becomes president. We elect or re-elect a president every four years.

The public is exposed to the candidates in many ways. Most of the candidates campain to get the voters attention. They are also exposed to the candedates by the internet, the television and other way's such as advertising on billboards.

I think that the presidential electoin is not broken because people still vote for who they think will be the best president. It is not a popularity competition like many of todays shows on television. Sometimes the system will not work that well because not all of the candidates are know as well as the others and some may raise more money on campains than others. For the most part the election is not broken but it may have some flaws.

I believe that we are electing both the most skilled skilled candidate and the biggest celebrity. This year there are huge celebrities like Hillary Clinton who could become the first female president and Barrack Obama who would become the first African American president. Even though these people are celebrities some people may think they are also the most skilled candidates. It costs millions of dollars to run a successful campain. The candidates get the money from wealthy individuals and programs and sponsorers. I think that the candidates could do better things with the money like give it to a cancer foundation than spend it on their campain. I think that the presidents are pressured to push issues desired by their contributers because they need the money and the votes.

If I could vote I would probally vote for Giuliani because he has political experience and he made good decisions for New York. I think he would still be a good president even though he had the scandals. Giuliani handled the many serious problems that New York had with poise and that would make him a good president.

A caucus is a closed meeting of a group of persons belonging to the same political party or faction usually to select candidates or to decide on policy; also : a group of people united to promote an agreed-upon cause. They are held because they find out who teh party reresentatives are going to be in the nation election.(http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/caucus)

3. When are the national conventions for each political party? Why are they held? What is determined there?

The natinoal conventions for each political party for the constitution april 22-27, Libertarian it may 23-26, for Green its july 10-13, for Democratic its august 25-28 and for Republican its september 1-4. 4. What is the election process? How often do we elect or re-elect a president?

According to the United States Constitution, a presidential election is to be held once every fourth year. The process of electing a President and Vice-President begins long before Election Day. Candidates from both major and minor political parties and independent candidates begin to raise money and campaign at least one year in advance of the general presidential election. 5. Besides election techniques, how is the public exposed to candidates

The public is exposed to canidates by phone calls and door to door stops, tv advertisements, billboards, media, donating, showing up at events like concerts and speeches. (http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/news-article.aspx?storyid=99063)

6. Is the presidential election system broken? Has the selection of a president become like “American Idol” or “Survivor”? Does the primary system as it is currently constituted produce the “best” candidates? Is the “best” candidate necessarily the best president?

I don not think the presidential system is broken. The selcetion of a president has become like some tv shows where the person known the best and has the most advertisement usually becomes one of the top canidates. The system doesnt produce the best presdient because some people can not get enough of funding like other people because they are not as well known. The best canidate is not always the best president

7. Are we electing skilled and thoughtful leaders or the best-financed celebrity package? How much does it cost to run a campaign? How does this cost make you feel about our election system? Where do candidates obtain the money to fun for president? Do you feel candidates are pressured to push for issues desired by their contributors?

We are doing both, electing skilled and electing the best-fincaced celebrity package. We have people like Gulianni and Clinton who are known for scandals but both have also had alot of prior expierence. To run a campign it can cost as much as 22 million like Hilary Clinton has spent. I think the cost of the election is a little overboard because we could be doing other stuff with this money instead of spending it on so much public attentiion things. The canidates get the money for campign by individuals and PAC's.Yes I feel canidates are pressured to push for issues desired by the contributors because in order to kepp getting the funding they want they have to do what the contributors want otherwise they will not get the funding.http://projects.washingtonpost.com/2008-presidential-candidates/

8. If you could vote for president in this election, who do you feel you would vote for and why?
Gulianni is the best choice for president because of his previous experience as the mayor of New York City. He was able to handle everything dealing with the after math of 9/11and a lot of people like him because of that. With the expirence of dealing with a crisis like that many people of the area and people affect and happy with with how he handled the after math will vote for him.

2008 Presidential Election

The 2008 Presidential Election is scheduled to take place on November 4, 2008 and there are many people that are going to be running for either president or vice president of the United States of America. The candidates are running for different political parties. Candidates for the Democratic Party are Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich, Barack Obama, and Bill Richardson. The candidates for the Republican Party are Rudy Guliani, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson. There are some other parties that people are running for but these are the two major parties.

Hillary Clinton's political initiative is to become to the first female president. John Edwards wants to eliminate poverty, fight global warming, provide universal health care, and to withdraw troops from Iraq. Mike Gravel wants to deal with taxes and get them all straight so that there aren't that many issues with them. Dennis Kucinich's goal is to repeal the USA PATRIOT Act, legalizing same-sex marriage, and ending the war on drugs. Barack Obama's political initiatives are to end the Iraq War, increase energy independence, and providing universal health care. Bill Richardson stated that he would try to stick with and enforce the idea of universal health care. Those are the political initiatives for all of the candidates running for the Democratic Party.

The candidates for the Republican Party also have very strong political initiatives. Rudy Guliani may have strong opinions about abortion and some other issues but he also has many goals in mind if he were to be elected the president. Mike Huckabee is not going to do anything about the war going on in Iraq, he is against gun control, but he is in favor of the death penalty. Duncan Hunter is a true conservative and he is going to stick with his beliefs regarding that position if he is chosen for president. John McCain is a lead sponsor of gun control and he would remain with that if he were chosen president. Ron Paul is in favor of free trade and he opposes birthright citizenship. Mitt Romney believes that overturning should happen to the whole Roe vs. Wade theory. The last candidate for the republican party is Fred Thompson and his political initiatives are to remain in favor of a constitutional amendment and to stay to true to his non-supportiveness of a federal ban on gay marriage. Those are the political initiatives of all the candidates running for the republican party.

A caucus is a meeting of supporters or members of a political party or movement and they are held to begin the processes of selecting their state's preffered presidential candidate. The Republican Party National Convention will be from September 1-4, 2008 and the Democratic Party National Convention will be from August 25-28, 2008. National Conventions are held to show both the Republican and Democratic Parties at their best and they determine the official party candidates to the public. Speaking of the public, they are exposed to the different candidates and what they have to offer when the candidates all speak on live TV and announce that they are going to run or what they are going to do for our country. The election process works by having the public vote for the candidate who they think would be the best as the president of the United States of America. Then all the votes are tallied up according to each state and then they are looked at overall and then there is an announcement regarding who was elected president. We vote every four years because after a person has been the president for four years, you have to either elect someone else or re-elect the current president. If someone has been the president for eight straight years, then you have to vote for someone else because they can only serve in office for a totaly of eight years. These are some of the different details that go along with the presidential election.

The presidential election is not broken because people are still very honest and they vote for the person who they believe is best suited for the job. In a sense, it can be a popularity contest but it is nothing like the voting that goes on in some of reality TV shows like "Survivor" or "American Idol." The primary system brings forward the best candidates because the two major parties, Democratic and Republican, are a part of that system. The best candidate is not always the best president because if that person can persuade people to vote for them and they do, then he has the job but that doesn't mean that he is going to follow through with everything which could mean that there is another candidate who could have been better. I believe we are electing the skilled and thoughtful leaders instead of the best-financed celebrity package because the candidates that run are not usually very popular figuers before they start running for president. The cost to run a campaign is anywhere from 400 million to 1 billion dollars. This cost makes me think that there is a lot of effort put into the whole election process and that if you win, it would make you feel that much better because it was such a big deal. The candidates have to work at getting the money to run for president because they do not recieve any grants until after the election. I do think that the candidates are pressured to push for issues by their contributors because the public has a lot of different opinions about what is going on in the world and the candidates are all influenced by that. If I was able to vote for president this year, I think I would vote for Rudy Guliani because I think he has the most to offer and he has a good amount of experience as far as politics and government since he was the mayor of New York City for a considerable amount of time. This is an overlook and summary of what the 2008 Presidential Election is going to be about and what other little things go along with the election.

Ben Boyd: Presedential Election

There are many unique and diverse people running for presidency for the year of 2008. The canidates running for president for the Democratic party are Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich, Barack Obama, and Bill Richardson. The canidates running for president for the Republican party are Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter, Alan Keyes, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson.
Hillary Clinton is a democrat and her campaign centrilizes around Health Care, Education, Economy+Budget, and Iraq. John Edwards is also running under the democratic party and his campaign centrilizes around Health Care, Economy+Budget, and the Iraq War. Mike Gravel is running under the Democratic party and his campaign centrilizes around Economy+Budget, The Environment, and Immigration. Dennis Kucinich is running under the Democratic party and his campaign centrilizes around Health Care, the Environment, and the Iraq War. Barack Obama is running under the Democratic party and his campaign centrilizes around Health Care, The Iraq War, and Economy+ Budget. Bill Richardson is the final major canidate running under the Democratic Party. His campaign centrilizes on the Iraq War.
Rudy Giuliani is running under the Republican party and his campaign centrilizes around Immigration and the Economy+Budget. Mike Huckabee is also runing under the republican party and his poltical intiatives his campaign also centrilzes around Immigration and the Economy+Budget, very much like Rudy Giuliani. Duncan Hunter is running under the Republican party and his campiagn focuses around Immigration and the Iraq War. John McCain ia running under the Republican party and his politcal intiatives are the Iraq War and Immigration. Ron Paul is a Rublican who's campaign centrilizes around the Iraq War and the Economy+Budget. Mitt Romney is a Republican who's campaign centrilizes around Immigration and the Economy + Budget. Fred Thompson is the final canidate for the Republicans and his political intiatives are Immigration, Economy+Budget, and Abortion. (Washingtonpost.com)
A caucus is an informal meeting between candidates and potential voters where candidates can meet the voters in numerous places such as schools or churches. Caucuses are held to allow people to evaluate each candidate. It also allows candidates of the same party to compete over each other. (drake.edu)
(Thinkquest.org)
The elction process is the usual mechanism by which our modern democracy fills offices in the legislature, also in the executive and judiciary, and for regional and local government. We re-elect or elect someone for president every four years. (wikpidia.org)
Besides election techniques, canidates can be exposed to the public through media. Also, through the News and apperaing on the television wiether it be on talk show or a debate, or a rally.
The presidential election system is broken when no candidate receives the majority of the votes. The president election system is partially like American Idol or Survivor because some people do pay attention to the issues presented but others may just vote on the most popualr person or celebrity figure. The primary system does not always produce the best candidates sometimes is justs elects the most popular one. The best candidate is not always the best president because sometimes a president might be elected becuase of there advantage over the competition through there money and their popularity.
If i could vote for president in this election i think that I would vote for Barack Obama. This is becuase he has a lot of governing expierence because he had been an Illinois Senator for 6 years and it was said that he strided and was successful in improving upon the areas in which his campaign is centrilized around right now. The Presidential elections are a very complex topic.
